The state-run New Era reported that Geingob is trying to mediate in the well-publicised running feud between Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi and his predecessor Ian Khama.
The said Geingob, who is the current chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) met Khama during his recent visit to SADC headquarters in the Botswana capital Gaborone.
Masisi is accusing his predecessor of meddling in the affairs of the state amid allegations that Khama is sponsoring the candidature of Botswana’s former foreign minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi for the presidency of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party at the party’s congress later this year.
The resignation of Geingob’s chief economic advisor John Steytler received wide coverage after the presidency announced his departure on Monday without giving much details.
The Namibian, however, reported that Steytler, who is believed to be the brains behind Geingob’s Harambee Prosperity Plan, resigned from his position out of frustration.
Quoting sources at State House, the daily said the former Statistician General wanted to resign last year because of alleged frustrations, having felt his advice was often ignored.
The Namibian Sun reported about a horror road accident that claimed six lives between Windhoek and Okahandja on Monday.
The newspaper said four of the victims were burned beyond recognition.
