Namibia’s Vice President Nangolo Mbumba and his wife Susitjie have tested positive for COVID-19 and are both in self-isolation, Health Minister Kalumbi Shangula said.
Shangula told the Namibian Sun on Monday that both Mbumba and his wife were asymptomatic and are in a “very, very good” condition.
“They are about to conclude their 14-day isolation period,” Shangula said.
When contacted by the paper, the vice president, 79, dismissed speculation that he may have contracted the disease when he attended President Hage Geingob’s birthday party on 3 August.
“I have attended a number of events during this time including a funeral where I was delegated, so it would be difficult to say where I contracted it from,” Mbumba said.
The newspapers sources said Mbumba and wife were two of three guests from the Geingob birthday party to test positive for COVID-19. The other one is Geingob’s former aide Jeff Mbako who died last week in a Windhoek hospital.
