Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina officially launched the 13-month renovation project on January 15, 2025, aiming to modernize the over 40-year-old Hassan Djamouss International Airport. The project, funded largely through concessional grants from the French Treasury, will include the extension of the main runway, resurfacing of existing infrastructure, and the integration of systems compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recommendations.
Upon completion, the modernized airport is expected to accommodate up to 800,000 passengers and 20,000 tons of freight annually.
Minister of Transport and Aviation Fatima Goukouni Weddeye welcomed the launch of the renovation project, expressing hope that the upgraded airport will attract more airlines and offer improved services to air operators.
Fabien Talon, Chargé d’Affaires of the French Embassy, praised the strong bilateral collaboration between Chad and France, emphasizing that this project exemplifies the ability of the two countries to work together effectively on mutually beneficial initiatives.
