Two new commissioners for the African Union Commission (AUC) are waiting for the endorsement by the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union for the new posts, APA can report on Thursday.
The 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU on Thursday elected South African Molapo Qhobela as the new commissioner Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for the continental body.
Similarly, the executive council session elected another South African, Lerato Dorothy Mataboge, as new commissioner of the infrastructure and energy of the continental bloc.
Mataboge told APA that her election as commissioner is awaiting the endorsement of African leaders on Saturday.
Africa continues to lose 40 percent in competitiveness due to the absence of adequate and efficient infrastructure.
Furthermore, around 600 million Africans, or 43 percent of the total population of Africa,
lack access to electricity, similarly, many enterprises lack consistent access to reliable energy.
“I will position Africa for future growth, in a world shaped by climate change and a revolution in green technologies,” Mataboge said.
APA also learned that Bankole Adeoye, current AU peace and security commissioner, will resume the same post to serve the continental body for the next four year.
The leaders are also expected to elect new chairperson for the AU Commission in a secret ballot next Saturday and endorse it same day.
