Newly elected South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said his forthcoming cabinet would work with all citizens of different political persuasions to move the country forward.
Ramaphosa said this in Parliament after being elected unopposed as president in parliament in Cape Town on Wednesday evening.
Addressing the House, the president said the basis of his government and that of the incoming cabinet would be that of collaboration, finding consensus and bringing about change for the better in the country.
He said despite coming from different political parties, all Members of Parliament have a common mandate to build a nation founded on the principles of social justice, solidarity and equality.
“All of us must see ourselves as holding the hopes and aspirations of our people. As for me, I commit myself to work day and night, to work very hard for the interests of our people,” he said.
Ramaphosa will be sworn-in as state president on 25 May in Pretoria.
