The head of Chad’s Military Transitional Council (CMT) arrived in the Nigerien capital Niamey on Monday for a working visit.
General Mahamat Idriss Deby’s first trip as Ndjamena’s new strongman, took him to Niger, a country with which Chad has a close history of cooperation especially within the framework of the G5 Sahel, to fight jihadism.
Chad has deployed a contingent in Tera in Niger’s western region of Tillaberi where Mahamat a son of late Idriss Deby visited Chadian troops to boost their morale, following the death on the battlefield last month of the former president.
The CMT leader had held talks with his Nigerien counterpart, Mohamed Bazoum.
“We are here to affirm our friendship and thank the president (of Niger) for all his support” he told reporters shortly after arriving in Niamey.
