The management committee of the Solidarity Fund for Safeguarding the Homeland (FSSP) announced in a statement issued on Monday in Niamey that since its creation, it has raised a total of 11.67 billion
CFA francs (around $19.3 million).
Initiated by the President of the ‘National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) and Head of State of Niger, General Abdourrahmane Tiani, the FSSP aims to support the financing of efforts to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Defence and Security Forces in the fight against terrorism and insecurity.
In addition to this objective, the fund’s mission is also to provide assistance to citizens who have been forcibly displaced due to insecurity, by offering them support for their resettlement, local reintegration and voluntary return. It is also responsible for the social mobilisation of populations as part of civic initiatives.
Like Mali and Burkina Faso, Niger has been facing jihadist attacks in parts of its territory for several years.
