APA – Lagos (Nigeria) Seventy-six persons were arrested and paraded by the Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for organizing same-sex birthday party and planned marriage.
The Commandant of the NSCDC Mohammed Muazu told journalists at the command’s headquarters in Gombe in northern Nigeria that his operatives prevented the wedding from taking place and that the NSCDC has zero tolerance for social vices.
Muazu, who was represented by the Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Sa’ad, stated that following an investigation they discovered that out of 76 suspects 59 are males with 21 said to have confessed to be homosexuals, while 17 females were also nabbed at the scene.
“They were arrested at Duwa plaza along Bauchi-Gombe expressway, holding a homosexual birthday and they had plans to hold a same-sex wedding before our men raided the scene. 59 males were arrested, 21 willfully confessed to being homosexuals, and 17 females, being present at the scene were picked up,” the report by Nigeria’s Punch newspaper on Tuesday quoted Muazu as saying.
According to the report, the commandant lamented the degeneration of morals in the society and assured that they would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
“They will be charged to court to answer for their crime, which is a social vice; a crime in Gombe State,” Muazu added.
