Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Thursday defeated their Counterparts from Botswana 2-0 in the second match of the two teams in Group C.
The match played in Rabat saw the defending Champions dominating the game in all the departments and taking an early lead in the 21st minute of the first half through Ifeoma Onumonu, who collected a through pass from Halimat Ayinde to put the ball beyond the opponent’s goalkeeper.
The first ended 1-0 in favour of the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
The Super Falcons continued their dominance of the game in the second half to the delight of the fans, who cheered every move by the entertaining Nigerian women.
The second goal came in the 48th minute of the match through substitute Christy Ucheibe who headed in the ball into the net from a corner kick to bring the score line to 2-0 in favour of the Super Falcons.
With this victory, the Super Falcons are now second with 3 points behind South Africa with 6 points.
The Banyana Banyana of South Africa had beaten Burundi 3-1 in the second match of Group C played earlier on Thursday. The South Africans beat their Nigerian counterparts 2-1 in their opening match of Group C.
The Botswana women are third in Group C with 3 points, having defeated Burundi 4-2 in their opening match, while Burundi are 4th with no points.
The Super Falcons will take on their Burundian counterparts on Sunday for the last group match.
