The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Thursday defeated Cape Verde counterparts 5-0 in the first leg qualifier of the 2024 WAFCON second round match, played at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja.
The Super Falcons opened scoring in the 7th minute of the game through Uchenna Kanu, while the second goal for the Nigerian team came in the 25th minute of the game through Gift Monday.
The game, which was dominated by the Super Falcons, saw Kanu registering her brace in the 45th minutes of the game to bring the score line to 3-0 before the interval.
The fourth goal for the Super Falcons was scored in the 66th minute by substitute, Esther Okoronkwo, who also got the fifth goal for her brace in the 77th minute to bring the score line to 5-0 in favour of the Super Falcons.
The second leg of the qualifier between the two teams is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in Cape Verde and the winner over the two legs will qualify for the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco.
In the 2022 edition of the tournament, which was also hosted by Morocco, the Super Falcons placed fourth.
