The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday in Garoua, Cameroon defeated the Egyptian national team, the Pharaohs 1-0 in their first match in Group D in the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The lone goal of the encounter was scored by Kelechi Iheanacho in the 30th minute of the match with a stunner that beat the Egyptian goalkeeper.
The Super Eagles dominated the game and the Nigerian defence frustrated every effort made by Mohamed Salah and his team mates to get the equalizer.
However, poor finishing within the 18-yard area of the Egyptian post in the second half of the game denied the Super Eagles three good attempts at goal.
Speaking after the match, Nigeria’s coach Augustine Eguavoen, said that his players were able to shut out Mohamed Salah and had the game under control.
With this victory, the Super Eagles lead Group D with 3 points, while the match between Sudan and Guinea Bissau will also be played on Tuesday in Garoua, Cameroon.
