The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday defeated their Guinea Bissau counterparts, the Wild Dogs by 1-0 in the second leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers between the two teams.
The match played in Biaaau saw the Super Eagles take the lead through Moses Simon in the 30th minute of the match when he converted the penalty awarded to the Super Eagles when a Nigerian player was brought down inside the 18-yard box.
Victor Osimhen came close to scoring the second goal in the 59th minute, but the ball hit the wood work and bounced back into the field of play.
Although the Super Eagles dominated the match, but they could not increase the tally, while the efforts made by the Wild Dogs to secure the equalizer were frustrated by the Super Eagles’ defenders.
The Super Eagles lost 0-1 to the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau last Friday in the first leg of the match played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
With this victory, the Super Eagles are top of Group A with 9 points while Wild Dogs are second with 7 points. The third place is occupied by Sierra Leone with 5 points, while Sao Tome & Principe sit at the bottom of the group with just 1 point.
