The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan defeated the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau 1-0 to qualify for the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The lone goal of the game was scored by Sangante, the Guinea Bissau defender in the 37th minute of the match as an own goal due to intense pressure from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who was waiting behind him to tap in the ball into the net from a superb pass from teammate Moses Simon.
Although the two teams scored one goal each in the second half but they were ruled out for offside and handball.
With this victory, the Super Eagles finished in the group stage with 7 points from three games.
In the match between the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea, which was played simultaneously, Equatorial Guinea defeated the host Cote d’Ivoire 4-0.
With this score line, Equatorial Guinea have 7 points and top Group A, while Nigeria placed 2nd with 7 points, while Cote d’Ivoire finished 3rd with 3 points and Guinea Bissau with no point came a distant fourth.
