The troubling security situation in Nigeria has assumed a new dimension as some unknown gunmen have stormed Daura, the hometown of Nigerian president and kidnapped the father-in-law to President Buhari’s the Aide de Camp (ADC).
The victim, Musa Umar, who is the Magajin Garin Daura (traditional ruler), was abducted in his Daura residence, Katsina North shortly after observing his Maghrib prayer.
Nigeria’s Channels Television report on Thursday quoted a credible source in Daura as saying that “the attackers shot sporadically to disperse the crowd and picked the traditional ruler in a Peugeot 406”.
The traditional ruler, who is the father of Fatima Musa, wife of Colonel Mohammed Abubakar, the ADC to President Muhammadu Buhari, was a retired customs comptroller.
The report added that the Katsina State Command of the Nigerian police force is yet to confirm the incidence, adding that it is still looking for clearance.
Since the end of the presidential and general elections in Nigeria in March, killings by gunmen, herdsmen and kidnapping have become worse, especially in northern states of the country.
The setting up of special task forces by the police to tackle the ugly development appear not to be working and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu has on Wednesday announced the redeployment of some State Commissioners of Police in order to beef up security in the affected northern states.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s private trip to the United Kingdom last month, saying it was a wrong move sequel to the worsening security challenges bedevilling the nation.
The PDP said it was incumbent on President Buhari, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces to end the rising insecurity in various states of the federation.
