The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday held the Warriors of Zimbabwe to a 1-1 draw in the second game of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier played in Rwanda.
It was another poor performance by the Super Eagles as the Warriors of Zimbabwe took the lead in the first half of the game when Zimbabwe’s Walter Musona took a 35-yard free-kick that beat Nigeria’s goalkeeper for the Warriors opener in the 26th minute of the first half.
Nigeria’s coach Jose Peseiro’s substitutions in the second half paid off as substitute Kelechi Iheanocho got the equalizer for the Super Eagles in the 67th minute of the game to bring the score line to 1-1.
Local media reports on Monday said that the efforts made by Super Eagles to score a second goal was frustrated by the Warriors.
Reacting to the results of the match, many Nigerian soccer fans called for a change in the coaching crew of the Super Eagles and the replacement of coach Peseior and the goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho.
According to the sports fans, Coach Peseior may not successfully lead the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and ensure a good outing in the African Cup of Nations tournament in 2024.
In the first match of the World Cup qualifier played in Nigeria, the Super Eagles also played a 1-1 draw with the Crocodiles of Lesotho.
With this result, Nigeria is placed 2nd with 2 points from two games behind South Africa which has 3 points from 1 game.
