The Nigerian government has inaugurated a 14-man committee to strengthen internal security framework and community policing in Nigeria.
Inauguration the committee on Tuesday in Abuja, Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), recalled that President Buhari had tasked the Senior Executive Course 40, 2018 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic studies (NIPSS), Kuru to undertake a study of the rising insecurity in Nigeria.
He said that the committee chaired by Dr. Amina Shamaki, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Offices (SSO), was expected to complete the assignment and submit its report within two months.
The inauguration of the committee is coming barely a week after the acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed him to immediately commence the implementation of community policing strategy across the country.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will not let Nigerians down in providing effective and result-oriented leadership that safeguards and ensures a better life for citizens.
Speaking after attending the daily Tafsir (Quranic interpretations) marking the month of Ramadhan fast at the State House Mosque on Tuesday in Abuja, Buhari assured that he was conscious of the weight of responsibility on his shoulders.
He noted that the reality of his office weighs heavily on his mind at all times, and he will keep working to deliver an improved life to Nigerians.
Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said that President Buhari assured Nigerians that “he knows what to do, and will not fail Nigerians”.
He added that President Buhari expressed gratitude to all Nigerians for the opportunity to serve a second term in office and that their expectations for giving him the mandate would be met.
“The expectations of Nigerians will be met. I will not let them down. I will continue to do my best,” he said.
He said that the President reiterated his earlier message on the occasion of Ramadhan to Nigerians that discipline should be the watch word of every citizen and advised citizens to use the fasting period to reflect and be more constructive in purpose by promoting harmony.
