The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire held the national team of Equatorial Guinea to a 1- 1 draw in their first match in Group A of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Equatorial Guinea’s Iban Salvador scored the team’s goal in the 36th minute against the run of play.
But Victor Osimhen got the equaliser for Nigeria in the 38th minute to bring the score line to 1-1.
Although the Super Eagles dominated the game with 12 shots at goal against the opponent’s 1 shot at goal, they failed to utilize the numerous chances they created to win the game.
After securing the equalizer, Victor Osimhen failed to convert three other chances to win the game for the Super Eagles as the goalkeeper of Equatorial Guinea was able to stop two other goal bound shots.
The performance of the Equatorial Guinea’s goalkeeper Owono earned him the man of the match at the end of the match.
In the opening match of the tournament on Saturday, the host, Cote d’Ivoire defeated their Guinea Bissau counterpart 2-0, scoring a goal in each half of the game.
