The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the arrest of members of two separate criminal networks, marking a significant success in its efforts to improve security in the country.
According to the statement by the (NPF), these operations are part of the Nigerian government’s proactive strategy to combat organized crimes.
The statement said that on November 1, 2024, Ogaga Dickson, a 35-year-old man and a member of a notorious robbery group, was arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of CSP Hassan Jega, the Police Officer in Charge of Agbarho Division in Delta State, who was killed on October 14, 2024.
CSP Jega was killed in a shootout while leading an operation to stop a robbery. During the arrest of Ogaga, the police seized several weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a British pistol, a locally made pistol and ammunition of various calibres, as well as six luxury vehicles.
On December 2, 2024, the police reported another success with the dismantling of a child trafficking ring led by Pastor Dayo Bernard in Bukuru, Plateau State. Five children, aged 2 to 4, who were abducted from the city of Jos, were recovered and reunited with their families after the arrest of several members of the ring, including Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel and Peter Ukwuani.
According to the confession of the main suspect, 13 other children were abducted and sold at different prices. These children were recovered and reunited with their families through the efforts of local authorities.
These successes are part of the continued efforts of the police to respond to the directives of the Inspector General of Police, who ordered a campaign to seize illicit weapons in circulation.
The police also recovered 14 AK-47 rifles during the series of operations.
While the police hailed these results as concrete examples of its determination to fight crime, it highlighted the effectiveness of its strategies to combat organized criminal networks.
