The Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, made the request when he received the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhay Thakur, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday in Abuja .
Dr. Baru had in his New Year statement disclosed that successive governments didn’t do the Turn-Around Maintenance on the nation’s refineries in the last 42 years, and that the current administration would expedite action to bring them alive.
The report by Nigeria’s Independent newspaper on Wednesday said that a statement by the NNPC’s spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, stated that Dr. Baru acknowledged the role of Indian companies in Nigeria as well as imploring them to extend their presence to the downstream sector of the Petroleum Industry to leverage on the enormous opportunities there.
He assured the High Commissioner of NNPC’s commitment to further strengthen the existing relations between the two countries in the energy sector.
Earlier in his remarks, the Indian High Commissioner, commended Nigeria for its support to India in the area of energy security.
He said that Nigeria had been contributing significantly to India’s energy needs.
