At least nineteen members of Nigeria’s Defence and Security Forces (DSF) were killed on Tuesday in the northwestern village of Kanya.
The army, with 13 soldiers killed, was the worst hit.
Five policemen and a militiaman were also killed in clashes with unidentified gunmen.
The previous day, several dozen members of a self-defence militia lost their lives in clashes with the same armed group near the border with Niger.
According to security sources, this part of the country has become a haven for criminal groups that terrorize local population in the area.
