A total turnover of 660.654 million shares worth N9.189 billion were traded in 12,032 deals by investors this four-day trading week on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
The Nigerian bourse opened for four trading days this week as the Federal Government of Nigeria declared Tuesday 1st October, 2019 a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 59th Independence Anniversary.
The weekly report of transactions released on Friday by the NSE showed that the figures were in contrast to a total of 1.097 billion shares valued at N16.693 billion that exchanged hands last week in 14,717 deals.
It added that the Financial Services industry led the activity chart with 458.190 million shares valued at N5.905 billion traded in 6,720 deals, while the Conglomerates industry followed with 55.804 million shares worth N124.513 million traded in 545 deals.
The third place was Construction/Real Estate Industry with a turnover of 54.330 million shares worth N62.585 million traded in 135 deals.
Trading in the Top Three Equities namely, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Access Bank Plc and FBN Holdings Plc. accounted for 280.714 million shares worth N4.909 billion in 2,985 deals, contributing 42.49% and 53.43% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
According to the report, a total of 3,015 units valued at N701,234.17 were traded this week in 16 deals compared with a total of 16,253 units valued at N1.103 million transacted last week in 13 deals.
In the Bonds section, a total of 4,250 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N4.305 million were traded this week in 6 deals compared with a total of 36,581 units valued at N37.504 million transacted last week in 16 deals.
The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization both depreciated by 2.48% to close the week at 26,987.45 and N13.137 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished lower with the exception of NSE Insurance and NSE Industrial Goods Indices which appreciated by 5.71% and 0.14% respectively while the NSE ASeM index closed flat.
