Dr. Kola Jinadu, the Senior Technical Adviser to the NCDC Chief Executive Officer said on Tuesday in Jos in northern Nigeria that the centre had 12 probable cases and that the cases cut across 21 states of the country.
He noted that 21 states have active Lassa fever cases with fatality ratio of 21.8 percent.
Jinadu disclosed that 15 healthcare workers were infected with the disease in their efforts to treat infected persons and check the spread of the disease.
He said, however, that there was a decline in the number of reported cases in the recent weeks.
Local media reports quoted Jinadu as saying that the state Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) led by the NCDC have continued to coordinate the response activities and that the state EOCs have been activated in Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi and Plateau states.
He assured that the national rapid response team comprising the NCDC, the Federal Ministries of Agriculture and Environment were working in some of the affected states like Oyo, Edo, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Plateau and Taraba.
