President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sympathy and commiserated with the families of the persons who died, sustained injuries, and were affected in the building collapse in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
In a statement by presidential spokesman Femi Adesina, President Buhari prayed for divine assistance in the rescue operations and wished those injured speedy recovery.
“The President, who is pained by this tragic incident, salutes the courage and determination of the first responders, national and sub-national emergency agencies in Lagos State, and compassionate Nigerians, whose immediate action in the aftermath of the collapse of the three-storey building led to the rescue of several persons, including many children,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the death of five persons in the three-storey building that caved in on Sunday in Lagos.
The agency said that 23 persons, including children were rescued alive.
Local media reports said that the occupants were said to be in their various apartments when the building suddenly collapsed and trapped some of them.
