Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has said that democracy is still the best option in spite of military takeovers in some African countries.
Receiving the Angolan ambassador, Dr Eustaquio Januario Quibato and the outgoing Ambassador of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dr Fahad Obaid Al Taffaq in Abuja on Thursday, President Buhari assured the two countries that his administration would take advantage of mutual interests and continue to improve on the existing relationships.
According to the statement released on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Nigerian President, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari recalled the role Nigeria played in the liberation of Angola, noting that Nigeria deploys its resources to help sister African nations.
He stated that in spite of military coups in some countries in Africa democracy is still the best option.
Responding, Dr Quibato thanked the Nigerian President for being the “champion” of anti-corruption in Africa, degrading the Boko Haram insurgency group and providing what they described as “wise leadership” to the country.
The outgoing Ambassador of the UAE, also lauded President Buhari for repositioning the Nigerian economy in a way that has diminished import dependence.
