President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Abuja on Sunday after the three-day trip to Istanbul, Turkey for the Africa Partnership Summit, the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, has said.
Shehu said in a statement in Abuja that President Buhari was received at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by the Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha among others.
According to the statement, the Nigerian leader had in Istanbul solicited more support to tackle insecurity and insurgency besetting African countries, particularly Nigeria.
It added that President Buhari also assured the Turkish Government that the Government of Nigeria would not allow any part of the nation’s territory to be used to undermine a friendly state such as Turkey.
Local media reports on Monday said that the statement also stated that under the strict Central Bank and Financial Intelligence Unit’s governance structure and management, money from the investments cannot be moved anywhere to finance subversive activities.
Meanwhile, the presidential spokesman has said that Turkey will partner with Nigeria to tackle insecurity in the country.
Speaking on the gains of President Buhari’s trip to Istanbul, Shehu told local television station, Channels TV on Sunday that Turkey was an experienced nation as regards tackling insecurity and that the country was ready to donate equipment for Nigeria.
“Turkey with their experience in weapons manufacturing and technology and all of that, they’ve handled matters that we are dealing with for a long time so there’s a lot we can learn from them and from the engagements, it is clear that we have got that partner that we needed that would help Nigeria.
“They are donating equipment, we are buying some and we hope that as soon as we go into the new year, some activities will start,” he said.
According to him, discussions around securing Nigeria were prioritized during President Buhari’s trip to Turkey.
“At the center of all of the President’s engagements in Turkey is the issue of securing Nigerians and making Nigeria safe,” he said.
