Nigeria’s anti-fraud agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says that it secured a total of 2,220 convictions across the country in 2021.
The spokesperson of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Thursday in Abuja that the Lagos zonal command of the commission recorded the highest number of convictions in the last 12 months of 2021.
According to Mr Uwujaren, the review of the commission’s performance in 2021 showed that the Lagos zonal command covering Lagos and Ogun states recorded 481 convictions.
He explained that the Ibadan zonal command, comprising Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states recorded 324 convictions, while the Port Harcourt zonal command, covering Rivers, Bayelsa and Abia states, is the third on the list with 230 convictions.
Although, the statement did not disclose the nature of crimes committed in the cases the convictions were recorded, but the major role of the agency is the fight against financial frauds in the country.
