Nigeria’s Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, has been confirmed by the Council of State as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Mohammed was appointed in the acting capacity on January 15, by President Muhammadu Buhari, and he took over from former IGP, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, who attained the retirement age of 60 years.
The confirmation was announced at the Council of State meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Abuja.
Adamu hails from Lafia, in Nasarawa State in northern Nigeria.
Born on 17th September, 1961, Adamu enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1986, after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a bachelor’s degree in Geography. He also holds a degree from the University of Portsmouth, England.
Before his appointment as the Inspector General of Police, he was an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Benin City, Edo State and was responsible for the overall management and operations of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Zone 5, comprising Bayelsa, Delta and Edo State Police Commands.
