Nigerian President Bola Tinubu arrived back in Abuja on Tuesday night after his two-week private visit to Paris, France.
President Tinubu was received on arrival by top government officials, including his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Although Nigerian officials and the Presidency remained silent on the reason for the visit, but on Tuesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, said that President Tinubu had directed immediate interventions to alleviate the suffering and forestall a further breakdown in security across the country..
However, there were reported cases of protests over the rising cost of living in some states in the country. Some angry youths and women took to the streets of Minna, the Niger State capital and Kano on Monday through Tuesday in northern Nigeria to protest what they described as the rising cost of living in the country.
Similar protests were also reported in Ondo State in South-Western Nigeria.
Local media reports on Wednesday said that the latest trip was Tinubu’s third to France and his 14th foreign visit since he assumed office eight months ago.
Nigerians had before the latest trip to France expressed concerns over the frequent trips of the President, ministers and top Government officials and the large number of officials who accompany President Tinubu on his trips both within and outside the country.
However, President Tinubu reacted to the complaints and announced a reduction in the number of aides and officials who should accompany him on official trips abroad as well as local tours, but was silent on the frequency of such trips.
