The Nigerien authorities have not yet provided any justification for the decision.
On Thursday evening, Niger’s President Abdourahamane Tiani announced a series of major administrative changes.
According to the official account of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), the Nigerien head of state has issued an ordinance dissolving all regional, city and district councils.
The Niger authorities have given no explanation for these adjustments.
General Tiani took power in July 2024 following a coup against Mohamed Bazoum (still in detention).
