Spread over two years, the project has two components: the incubation of a research laboratory on the theme “environment, health and society” but also the support to the structuring and valorisation of research.
This structure must be brought into line with international standards and young researchers must be supported in the process of promoting their research projects.
The project will benefit 13 research units and more than 100 research professors, PHD and MBA students at the University of Nouakchott.
The grant ceremony was enhanced by the presence of the Mauritanian Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Information and Communication Technologies, Sidi Ould Salem, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the French Embassy in Nouakchott, Benoît Combourieu.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed that higher education and scientific research are the driving force behind the country’s economic, social and cultural development.
These two sub-sectors are at the heart of the department’s strategy, with the objective of raising their level in terms of quality and quantity, he noted.
The Mauritanian official reported on the recent opening of three doctoral schools at the university with a student population of more than 200 and a boom in institutes and schools specializing in different areas of development.
