Three weeks after the explosion at the national hydrocarbon depot in Kaloum, a ship laden with diesel fuel was received by the Guinean authorities on Tuesday 9 January 2024.
Prime Minister Bernard Goumou, visited the oil quay at the Autonomous Port of Conakry early on Wednesday morning to ensure that diesel distribution had resumed.
“The arrival of this ship in the port is a sign that Guinea is beginning to get back on its feet after the terrible tragedy that struck the country on the night of 17 to 18 December last year,” said Goumou.
However, the PM admitted that the authorities had not yet reached the end of the shortage.
“The resumption of diesel supplies to the country through our own facilities is a real breath of fresh air” he added.
Accompanied by the Minister of State, the Minister of Security and Civil Protection, the Ministers of Finance and the Government Spokesman, the Commander-in-Chief of the National Gendarmerie, the Governor of Conakry and the Director-General of the Port Autonome de Conakry, the Prime Minister assured citizens that in the coming days the government would be able to make further important announcements aimed at returning the situation to normalcy.
In addition to this ship, the government, which has signed an agreement with Sierra Leone, said it had 14,000 cubic metres of petrol in Freetown.
