Volunteers in Burkina Faso continue to swell the ranks of the army fighting to overcome terrorism.
The 5th cohort of civilian auxiliaries of the army made its official exit on Monday, October 21, 2024, to join the ranks of the Burkinabe military against terrorist groups.
Made up of volunteers for the defense of the homeland (national VDPs), this new wave is composed of 828 fighters including 49 female personnel, the Brigade of Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (BVDP) indicated
Their training, which lasted two months, took place in several stages and everything was implemented to allow the VDPs to be more operational and to overcome the terrorist hydra, stressed Lieutenant-Colonel Mahamady Sawadogo, Deputy Commander of the BVDP.
“Your primary mission is to participate in the reconquest of the territory. In carrying out your missions, you must not be a threat to the population. Above all, you must not take actions that violate human rights,” he advised them.
Burkina Faso is fighting against armed terrorist groups (GAT) that are active in many regions.
The VDPs are an integral part of the strategy to combat the GATs.
Thousands of auxiliaries have been recruited for this purpose. Also, recruitment within the army is now primarily made from within the ranks of the VDPs.
