At the extraordinary OIC summit in Riyadh on Monday, November 11, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye called for urgent international action to bring peace to Palestine and Lebanon, denouncing the “intolerable” violence inflicted on civilians and urging the UN Security Council to impose an immediate ceasefire.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, called for Islamic solidarity and urgent international action to address the escalating violence in Palestine and Lebanon at the OIC Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh on Monday, November 11.
“The situation in Palestine and Lebanon is a humanitarian tragedy of unprecedented proportions. We can no longer remain silent in the face of the daily suffering of the Palestinian people and the repeated violations of their fundamental rights,” said President Faye, stressing the need for a coordinated international response.
According to him, the violence perpetrated against the Palestinians goes far beyond the regional conflict and calls for a global mobilization in favor of human dignity and justice.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye underscored the central role Senegal intends to play in defending the rights of Palestinians and called on the United Nations Security Council to act decisively to bring about an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities in the region.
“We urge the international community to come together to stop the violence and restore peace to the region,” he added.
In his speech, the Senegalese leader condemned the suffering inflicted on the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, which he described as “tearing apart all humanity.” The Senegalese President recalled that Palestinian families face daily attacks, forced displacement and extremely precarious living conditions. This crisis, he stressed, demands a proportionate response and concrete action to protect innocent lives at risk.
“What the Palestinian people and Lebanese civilians are experiencing before our eyes today cannot be ignored. Senegal reaffirms its unwavering support for a just political solution based on lasting peace and respect for international rights,” the President said, before calling on the OIC to step up its efforts to provide multilateral support to Palestine and Lebanon.
