Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has reappointed Patrick Achi as his new Prime Minister.
While he was considered for the post of Vice President after his resignation on April 13, the head of the Ivorian government will not be promoted.
President Ouattara has taken several observers by surprise who were expecting the opposite.
He has chosen Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, currently Governor of the Central Bank of West African States ( BCEAO), for the post of vice president.
Kone is number two in the protocol order of Cote d’Ivoire.
In addition, Achi will have the task of forming a smaller team in the coming days than the previous one, following Ouattara’s new directives.
The outgoing government had forty-one members including thirty-seven ministers and six secretaries of state.
“In order to strengthen the effectiveness of the government’s action and to take into account the current global economic situation, I have decided to reduce the number of government ministers,” said the head of state, who wants a reorientation towards social resilience and security.
