The Electoral Commission of Namibia said it is making progress in its plans to establish an agency that would be mandated to promote transparency in political financing and accountability, according to New Era.
The move is aimed at compelling political parties to be accountable for the money they receive from the state.
Confidente reported about the scramble for nearly 30 tenders worth about N$8 billion that the Central Procurement Board of Namibia is set to award this year.
According to the weekly, there has been intense lobbying for the tenders by politicians, senior government officials and other “tenderprenuers”.
The paper further alleged that knives are already out for some of the senior personnel at the procurement board, who the lobbyists perceive as stumbling blocks in awarding tenders to politically well-connected individuals.
The Namibian Sun wrote about the sudden resignation of Air Namibia’s acting managing director Mandi Samson.
According to the report, Air Namibia announced that Samson resignation would take effect from Friday and that she was leaving to “pursue other opportunities”.
