Zimbabwe’s population has grown by more than 30 percent over the past 10 years, according to the results of a preliminary census conducted in 2021.
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) said the country’s population is projected to be nearly 17 million, up from 13.1 million at the time of the last census in 2012.
“The projected 2022 population number is 16,980,513, with 8,810,090 females and 8,170,423 males,” ZIMSTAT spokesperson Mercy Chidemo said.
There were 13,061,239 people in Zimbabwe at the time of the last population census a decade ago, with 6,780,700 of them being females and 6,280,539 being males.
The latest figures are the outcome of a pre-census mapping exercise conducted by ZIMSTAT in 2021.
The agency is expected to conduct the actual population census from April 21-30 this year.
