President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has promised to watch the first match of the Ghana Black Stars in Egypt and watch them again if they qualify to play for the finals.
He noted that the country has experienced African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy drought for the past 37 years, thereby increasing the desire of every well-meaning Ghanaian for the country to reclaim its glory in African football.
Speaking at a ceremony to host the Black Stars contingent at the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday, President Akufo-Addo relived some of the glorious days of the team, mentioning some past players to motivate the team to glory.
The Stars led by the new captain, Andre Dede Ayew, were urged by the President to put in their best to give the nation its fifth African Cup trophy.
He noted that although in contemporary times, the team has played in five finals, losing twice to Ivory Coast on penalties on two occasions in 1992 and in 2015.
The Black Stars are scheduled to leave for Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to prepare for the tournament in Egypt.
