One of the highlights of Macron’s three-day visit is his historic speech to the Moroccan Parliament, where he reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity.
French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron
departed Morocco this afternoon, concluding a historic three-day state
visit.
At the request of King Mohammed VI, Macron’s visit focused on strengthening Franco-Moroccan cooperation at all levels, including sustainable agriculture and water management to promote regional security and economic development.
The highlight of the visit took place on Monday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, where Macron and King Mohammed VI signed 22 agreements, covering a wide range of sectors, including food security, energy and railways.
Worth €10 billion, the agreements signed between the two countries aim to strengthen their bilateral relations for years to come, the Royal Palace said in a statement.
Another highlight of Macron’s term was his historic speech delivered on Tuesday before both houses of the Moroccan Parliament, where he reaffirmed his support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over its southern Saharan provinces.
In his speech, Macron renewed France’s unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, saying that the region’s “present and future” lie in its full integration into Morocco.
Macron also highlighted the importance of the 2007 Moroccan Autonomy Plan, describing it as the only basis for achieving a just, lasting and negotiated political solution.
“This is the position that France will implement to support Morocco in international fora,” Macron said, adding that his country’s new position is “not hostile to anyone.”
As part of its decision to fully adhere to Morocco’s position on the Sahara conflict, France has updated all of its government-affiliated websites with an indivisible map of Morocco with its southern provinces.
Morocco welcomed France’s move with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, stressing that it is a “new step and a new chapter in our deep and meaningful relationship, opened by recent discussions between our leaders.”
Macron’s three-day state visit also included his participation in an event on the theme of food security hosted today by the OCP Group.
During the meeting,, he highlighted OCP’s contributions and initiatives and also expressed satisfaction with water management in Morocco. Describing the Moroccan approach as holistic, he said France should take inspiration from Morocco’s strategy.
