King Mohammed VI has sent a message to President Macron officially inviting him to visit Morocco, following the announcement of France’s official recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
King Mohammed VI expressed his gratitude to President Macron for his warm wishes on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Throne Day, as well as for his personal commitment to strengthening the partnership between the two nations. “I am particularly pleased with the clear and strong position that France has adopted, in Your
Message, on the subject of the Moroccan Sahara,” said the Moroccan sovereign.
King Mohamed VI also welcomed France’s firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over this region, stressing that this support strengthens the international momentum in favour of the Moroccan solution proposed in 2007. “By recognising Morocco’s legal title and immemorial rights, France is helping to put an end to a conflict inherited from another era,” the king said.
The royal message underlined the importance of this decision for the Moroccan people and its driving forces, while emphasising the role of France, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, in resolving this regional dispute.
“Thanks to the significant evolution of the French position and your determination to act accordingly at the domestic and international levels, our two countries will be able to work together to achieve a solution that fully respects Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara,” he added.
King Mohammed VI expressed his wish to receive President Macron in Morocco as part of a state visit, underlining the promising prospects opening up for the two countries in many strategic sectors, thanks to the positive dynamic of their bilateral relations.
“I will be happy to receive you in Morocco as part of a state visit, the dates of which will be determined through diplomatic channels,” King Mohammed VI concluded.
