The number of ministers serving the new government led by President John Mahama in Ghana have been reduced to reduce ‘unnecessary’ expenditure, APA learnt on Tuesday.
President Mahama who returned to power following his election in December has cut the size of his cabinet ministers from 30 to 23.
Ghana’s Information ministry said, soon after his inauguration on December 7th President Mahama had signed an executive decree to that effect.
Several ministries created by former President Nana Akufo-Addo have been scraped.
The axed ministries include those of parliamentary affairs, information, sanitation, and national security.
Sources close to the new government said the cuts are in line with new measures aimed at cutting down on official spending and improve administrative efficiency.
