The Ghanaian Times reports that hundreds of people from all walks of life, dressed in traditional regalia, trooped to the Tamale Sports Stadium to be part of the ‘history makers’ as the independence day celebration was moved out of the capital for the first time in 62 years.
The people had gathered at the stadium as early as 5am local Ghanaian time and dressed in smart local Ghanaian attires, in anticipation of the speech of President Nana Addo dankwa Akufo Addo.
The stadium was very colourful with some very important traditional rulers, former President Jerry John Rawlings and some sitting African Presidents.
President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to remain steadfast, adding that the “goal is within reach”.
He reminded Ghanaians of their obligation towards working to build a happy nation, saying: “Calling yourself a Ghanaian must mean we look out for each other.
It means also that we look after the lands, the trees, the rivers, the mountains, the animals, all of God’s creatures that represent this nation of Ghana.
