The Ghanaian press on Friday focuses on the response of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to the strike action by the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), saying that it will not disrupt the schools calendar.
The Ghanaian Times reports that the Director General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwaah, has assured that it will resolve the issues raised by the NAGRAT before the reopening of schools for the 2019/2020 academic year.
This, according to him, will help not to disrupt the academic calendar, when all the issues raised are addressed.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Prof. Amankwaah said all was set for the first batch of students under the free Senior High School (SHS) to commence their education at their various schools of choice.
“In all, 490,000 qualified students are expected to be given placement which would open on Sunday, September 8, 2019,” he noted, adding that the first batch will report to school on Sunday September 15, 2019.
The Daily Graphic, for its part, said a seemly leaked report about the findings of an independent investigator hired by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) of Ghana to investigate the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited concession agreement with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has cleared the PDS of any wrong doing.
This was after the government suspended the agreement for what it termed alleged fraud on the part of PDS, having tendered an insurance guarantee which was disavowed by the issuer, Al Koot, six months into the concession.
