The Ghanaian press on Wednesday focuses on the announcement by the Police Criminal Investigative Department (CID) that they have located three girls kidnapped last year and will soon be reunited with their families.
The Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times and others gave prominence to the story, which the media have followed with keen interest.
The Graphic says, “Takoradi kidnapped girls…We know where they are-CID”, while the Times said, “Police locate 3 kidnapped girls…to be reunited with families soon”.
The two newspapers reported that the Director of CID, Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah, told a news conference in Accra on Tuesday that
the police was collaborating with stakeholders to bring the girls back safely.
The girls are Ruth Love Quayson, 18; Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21; and Priscilla Mantebea Korankye, who were kidnapped from various communities in Takoradi in the Western Region.
A suspect, Udoekuk Wills, a Nigerian was arrested and he also led the police to arrest one John Nweke, as the one who kept the girls.
Since the incident, there has been public pressure on the police to find the girls and this announcement has come as a pleasant news to the parents, who were always appearing in the media, appealing for justice for the kidnapped girls.
In another development, Mrs. Addo-Danquah announced that some three armed robbers, who attacked 10 British nationals on charitable mission had been arrested.
They are Ishmael Akyene aka Nana Israel Damascus, a 34-year old driver; and Daniel Akpan, a Nigerian driver, also 34 years, were arrested at Kasoa in the Central Region.
