The Ghanaian Times says, “Treat vigilantes as criminals – President to police”, and urged the police administration to treat any person involved in political party violence as a criminal.
He expressed the belief that the growing phenomenon of political vigilantism would be brought to a minimum if not totally eliminated if the police dealt with it as a crime.
“Crime is crime. It has no political colour and the police should act against any persons or group of persons engaged in unlawful acts,” he added.
The President made the call during the annual WASSA get-together of Ghana Police Service at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
President Akufo-Addo said: “I am asking for the full support of the Police Service in the passage of the law and enforcement. We owe it to the Ghanaian people and to generations yet unborn to maintain the peace and stability of our nation which our generation enjoys.”
The Daily Graphic, for its part, highlights indiscipline among some operators of public transport, who have been turning spots reserved as bus stops into loading stations, thereby compounding the traffic situation in the central business district of Accra.
