Two Qatar Armed Forces aircraft arrived at Port Sudan Airport in Sudan, carrying specialty pharmaceuticals provided by the Qatar Fund For Development.
According to a statement the airlift was part of Qatar’s air bridge established to provide relief to the Sudanese people as a result of the humanitarian crisis and the difficult conditions they are experiencing due to the continued conflict.
Qatar said the air bridge for relief to Sudan will continue throughout Ramadan. Since its launch in 2023, Qatar has been providing food, shelter tents, and ambulances to the conflict-ridden country.
Thousands had died and close to two million have fled since the conflict began between regular Sudanese forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
The assistance was received by Sudan’s Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the Governor of the Red Sea State Mustafa Mohammed Nour, and the Qatari ambassador to Khartoum Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sada.
Ambassador Al-Sada stressed Qatar’s continuous support for Sudan and standing by its people, emphasising his country’s firm stance on the need to maintain security, stability, and the African country’s territorial integrity.
The Minister of Health of Sudan expressed his country’s praise of Qatar for its constant relief efforts, which have become significant, especially following the displacement caused by recent events.
The Governor of the Red Sea State thanked Qatar for its successive assistance, pointing out its great role in alleviating the suffering of those affected.
He also noted Qatar’s air bridge is conducted to provide urgent food and medical aid, adding that the government and people of Sudan have received it with great appreciation.
He said they have been expressing gratitude for Qatar for standing by their side during all of their hardships.
