APA-Rabat (Morocco) – Ties between Morocco and Spain, two reliable partners, are currently experiencing their best moment in history, the former President of the Spanish Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, said on Wednesday.
Commenting on the working visit made on Wednesday by the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, to Morocco, Mr. Zapatero said that the two countries “have succeeded in forging a solid friendship
and are working hand in hand in a spirit of trust and transparency, which allows us to testify that bilateral relations are going through the best moment in their history,” Mr. Zapatero stressed in a statement to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP).
According to him, “the visit of the President of the Spanish Government to Morocco is of great importance, as relations with the kingdom are an absolute priority of Spain’s foreign policy, which is a cause for rejoicing for us”.
“Morocco and Spain are two neighbouring and friendly countries united by economic and cultural ties and exemplary cooperation in security matters,” noted the former Spanish Prime Minister, adding that they
constitute “a link between two continents and work for their prosperity and progress.”
“We are reliable neighbours and Morocco is a priority for Spain. For its part, Morocco is increasingly consolidating its relations with Madrid in order to make Spain a major ally in Europe,” said Mr. Zapatero.
On the economic front, he pointed out that Morocco is the leading destination for Spanish investment in Africa, and that bilateral trade continues to enjoy record growth.
Mr. Zapatero also stressed that the joint organisation of the 2030 football World Cup with Portugal “will give new impetus to these exemplary relations and open up a promising future for both countries.”
“Spain and Morocco are moving forward together in a spirit of deep friendship and mutual trust in order to build a better future and serve as a model for a multidimensional partnership”” he concluded.
