APA-Pretoria (South Africa) South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid tribute to the late Access Bank group chief executive Herbert Wigwe who died in a helicopter accident in the United States at the weekend.
Wigwe, his wife and son, and former Nigerian Exchange Group chairperson Abimbola Ogunbanjo died in the aviation accident on their way to Las Vegas to watch a Super Bowl football match on Sunday.
Ramaphosa conveyed his condolences and sympathies to all the affected families, including relatives and friends of the deceased helicopter crew as well who died in the mishap.
The president extended his thoughts and prayers to the Access Bank family worldwide, including Access Bank South Africa, saying he was “deeply saddened” by their passing in the aviation tragedy.
He acknowledged the significant role played by Wigwe in the continental banking sector, describing him as a pioneer and a partner in Africa’s economic landscape.
He expressed his gratitude to Access Bank South Africa’s support in the country’s investment drive.
“We value Access Bank South Africa’s support for our investment drive and we share in this terrible loss felt by the management and staff of a flagship African enterprise,” the president said.
