APA-Pretoria (South Africa) President Cyril Ramaphosa has wished a quick recovery to Zulu kingdom traditional prime minister Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who has been hospitalised for the past two weeks for an undisclosed ailment.
The family of the opposition Inkatha Freedom Fighters founder said in a statement that his health has worsened in recent days.
The veteran politician, 94, underwent a procedure for back pain management in July but had to be readmitted within days after developing complications.
“He has since developed a complication and, therefore, remains in hospital at this stage to receive the necessary care,” family spokesperson Bhekuyise Buthelezi said.
He is currently in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said Ramaphosa has been briefed about the senior stateman’s health.
“President Ramaphosa has communicated with the Buthelezi family who have briefed him about Prince Buthelezi’s health condition,” Magwenya said.
He said Ramaphosa “has conveyed that his heartfelt prayers are with Prince Buthelezi and the family.”
