Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Thursday said the rebels Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) have been defeated and their remaining troops are in a precarious military situation.
In his latest message, Abiy who has been leading federal troops from the front line said his army is poised to repeat victories gained in eastern and western fronts at the central command.
The PM’s claims came as he showed up at one of the key battle fronts in the central region of the country.
In military operations to be undertaken soon, additional towns will be liberated from the terrorist TPLF Group forces, he said.
The premier called on the Ethiopian public not to allow rebel forces from taking looted properties out of the areas they invaded.
“It is our deep-seated culture to take care of captives if the terrorist group surrenders and returns back looted properties to owners,” the premier said.
“The enemy has been destroyed and scattered”, said the PM, who added that the only choice it is left with is to surrender.
The army’s morale is at its peak, he said, extending gratitude to the public for the support.
He further called for unity and to pass on a resilient nation to the generations of Ethiopians.
The Ethiopian government on Wednesday disclosed that the historic and holy city of Lalibela has been freed from TPLF hands.
The rebels had occupied the city in August 2021.
News about Ethiopian forces’ triumphant entry to the city came less than a day after the TPLF forces were routed from a fortified position in Gashena – a strategic location in the north where they had amassed a huge force and built trenches.
