Renault Group has announced assigning to the Tangiers factory, the making of “Mobilize Duo,” an electric vehicle dedicated to shared mobility.
This announcement was made during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of its installation in Morocco, the carmaker said in a statement.
Inaugurated on February 9, 2012, the Tangiers plant has become the catalyst for the transformation of the entire Moroccan automotive industry.
Symbolizing the partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and Renault Group, this anniversary celebrates all the public and private players who work hand in hand for the development of the automotive industry, the leading exporting sector in Morocco since 2014, the statement added.
The plant now totals more than 2.3 million vehicles produced in ten years for more than 70 destinations worldwide.
Its growth remains inseparable from the success story of the Dacia brand in Morocco and around the world, with the production of the brand’s renowned models: Lodgy and Dokker in all their versions.
It’s also at the heart of the manufacture of all generations of Dacia Sandero, the vehicle most sold to individuals in Europe since 2017 and best-seller in Morocco, a guarantee of the success of “Made in Morocco”, the Group added.
Since May 2021, the industrial site in Tangiers has hosted the manufacture of its first vehicles of the Renault brand with the arrival of new models Express and Express Van, offering new opportunities for the domestic and international market.
Revolutionary and a symbol of carbon neutrality without rejecting industrial effluent, the plant affirms its position in the industrial device of the group.
“We celebrate, today, a successful partnership that opens on strategic and promising horizons. Renault is once again consolidating its role as a driving force in the development of the automotive industry in Morocco, an industry that is making a steady transition towards electrification and sustainable mobility. The launch of production of the first electric vehicle on the Tangiers production line illustrates the attractiveness of the Moroccan platform. We have the means and skills to achieve our goal and meet our challenge,” said Moroccan Minister of Trade and Industry Ryad Mezzour.
The Tangiers plant, one of the pillars of the group’s industrial facilities, will be used to manufacture Mobilize Duo.
The introduction of Duo in Tangiers will be supported by the investment in a new assembly line with a capacity that can be extended to 17,000 vehicles per year, which will integrate the specific process of an electric vehicle.
Mobilize Duo is a shared mobility solution designed to meet the needs of cities and car-sharing operators.
Mobilize Duo is a two-person vehicle, 100 percent electric, compact and connected.
It aims to use 50 percent recycled materials in its manufacture and to be 95 percent recyclable at the end of its life span.
